Use with detergent solutions to remove substances that are difficult or impossible to remove with detergent solutions alone. It dissolves or softens many organic substances so that they can be dispersed in a detergent solution and washed away. Use to remove resins, latexes, asphalts, paints, and intermediates for plastics. It is harmless to all metals. Before using on lined tanks, make sure it will not affect the tank liner.
To Use As Booster Solvent
Add to a solution of any detergent; it is usually used with alkaline detergents such as Cardinal tank cleaners Metalterj #222 and Metalterj #286. Use in recirculation systems, or in agitated tanks, or by similar methods that provide sufficient mechanical action to disperse the solvent and the substances that are being removed. Use at any temperature up to the boiling point of the solution, about 215F.
Normally, use at from 1% to 10% of the volume of the cleaning solution. The most cost-effective concentration depends on the quantity and the properties of the substance to be removed, on other components of the cleaning solution, on porosity of the surface, temperature, soak time, and the degree of agitation applied by the cleaning method. Initial trial at 5% is recommended; increase or decrease as needed.
To Use As Pre-Wash Solvent
Before washing with a detergent solution, apply Cardisolv #7674 to the substance to be removed. Use full strength. Use cold or hot, usually cold. Apply by spray or immersion. Let soak or recirculate until the substance is dissolved or softened. Then wash with detergent solution. The soak time required is usually less than 30 minutes but time varies for different substances from a few seconds up to several hours.
Typical Applications
Some of these substances may require a washing temperature over 180F. A substance may be listed under more than one name.
